Isom, the wife of John Pounds III, was possibly an American Indian from the Monacan Indian Tribe, which is apart of the Siouian linguistic group. Their village of about 100 people was located on the James River near Goochland above the falls at Richmond, Virginia. There is no direct evidence to support this and some think that the name, Isom Ishaw, was actually an English name.
